TUESDAY

One Day Film School

The One Day Film school is a filmmaking workshop run in schools since 2004, now also available online. Students take part in fun, practical activities throughout the morning. After lunch, they divide into groups (5-10 students per group), take on a role (director, producer, screenwriter, camera or actor) and make a short film based on a classic narrative (e.g. ‘a hero, a villain, something they both want’). Films can be up to 2 minutes' long and are silent (with music).

WEDNEDAY

Communicating with Respect

Andrew Wright, communicating with respect - Andrew is a regular visitor to the College. In this workshop he will discuss with our pupils why it is important to treat each other in a positive manner, what difference that can make and how it can make others feel.

Self-Defence Workshop

Join our Self-Defence Workshop for Life Skills and learn essential techniques derived from various martial arts disciplines. This hands-on session covers close-combat elbows, knees, escaping clinches, Muay-Thai grappling, sweeps, and attacking the legs/base.

Gain respect for the martial arts and develop self-confidence and discipline through these techniques. The workshop equips students with the skills needed to navigate close-combat situations effectively.

Make a Bug Garden

Make a bug garden - in this carousel you will be making your own bug garden. You will learn some maintenance skills and have something to take home and make a difference to your local ecosystem.

Pool Safety

This is an opportunity to work out what to do if you have to deal with a challenging situation when in a water environment. Learn from our experienced staff on how to deal with difficult circumstances in a calm manner. You will need your swimming kit, a pair of shorts and a T-shirt.

The Past, Present and Future of Careers

During this session, you will discover how the world of work has changed rapidly and work together to predict what jobs and careers may exist when you leave Ardingly College.

Part 1 – The Past

Can you guess what the jobs are from the clues? There are some really weird and whacky jobs that don’t exist today, but perhaps one of your ancestors did.

Part 2 – The Present

Find out what the most popular and high-paying jobs are in the world today. Can you guess which jobs are likely to no longer exist in 10 years’ time?

Part 3 – The Future

Based on key evidence, we will explore and predict which jobs that don’t exist right now, may be available by the time you leave Ardingly College.

Celebrating Ardingly
