Development Pathway

The Development Pathway
The Sports Development Pathway is designed to cater to a wide range of abilities for children from 2 - 11 years. We invite young athletes from the local community to experience the exceptional coaching and facilities we offer.
We look to work closely with the local community to increase opportunities for children to take part in structured coached sessions. Alongside our goal to increase participation rates we also keep a close eye out for athletes with exceptional sporting talent and aim to foster these individuals initially through our development centre programme and then with our elite coaching and expertise should players enrole at the college.

Our new Sport Development Officer Sam Wade, a former professional triathlete and 1st XI Ardingly Football captain had this to say about the Development Pathway which he is now overseeing.
“I have a huge passion for getting as many young people as possible to take part in regular sport as it provides them with skills such as; teamwork, resilience & determination alongside the health benefits it also provides. As a former professional athlete, I also understand the need to identify those young people who may have exceptional promise in their chosen sport and to provide the best support possible for them to achieve their potential. I believe Ardingly College does this exceptionally well for its students”
The Stars Programme
Sparking a Love of Sport
Open to all children in Years 3-6
The journey begins with the Stars Programme, an initiative aimed at children in years 2-6 who are eager to explore cricket, hockey or football. These sessions take place after school during term time and are led by our sports coaches, with the support of senior students as they actively engage with the community. The best part? The Stars Programme is offered free of charge, providing young children with an exceptional opportunity to try and develop their skills in these sports.
The Stars Programme focuses on instilling a genuine passion for the game and promoting the joy of sport.

Sports Development Programme
Open to children in Years 4-6, by invite following a trial.
The Ardingly College Development Centre stands as a platform dedicated to nurturing talented young athletes in the fields of football, hockey, cricket, and swimming. Designed for children in years 2-6 who exhibit exceptional skills or show enthusiasm and potential, this programme is an invitation-only pathway. Candidates are carefully selected following the completion of an application form and an impressive trial performance.
As part of the sports development programme, young athletes benefit from weekly coaching sessions during term time. Our qualified coaches, specialising in football, hockey, cricket, or swimming, guide the athletes in honing their skills. This regular commitment paves the way for continuous growth and progress, fostering an environment where young talents can thrive and take their sporting prowess to new heights.
Sporting Masterclasses
Expanding Horizons
Open to prospective pupils in Years 5 or 6.
In addition to the Stars Programme and the Development Centre, we offer Sporting Masterclasses throughout the year. These short, one-off sessions invite enthusiastic or talented children in Years 5 and 6 to experience coaching from our skilled sports coaches. These masterclasses provide a glimpse into the expertise and opportunities that could await them.
